(Christmas Show)

For over 25 years Skydiggers' friends and fans have reunited over the holidays at Toronto’s Legendary Horseshoe Tavern to celebrate the season to the soundtrack of the band's distinctive rootsy Christmas tunes and Skydiggers' classics, and this year they're taking it on the road. This season's show will feature songs from the band's new album, Warmth of the Sun. The 12-track album, which reflects the group’s elemental guitar-based origins and plaintive layered vocal style, arrives in a time of confusion, anger and division as an eloquent and vital plea for compassion, honesty, healing and reckoning with the truth, rendered in the group’s classic folk-rock style.

Terra Lightfoot

Steeltown’s own Terra Lightfoot is coming through, once again, loud and clear. Her newest album Consider The Speed adds to an impressive legacy that already includes 2018 Polaris Music Prize and JUNO nominations (Adult Alternative Album of the Year) for New Mistakes, Road Gold Certification thanks to her millions of miles logged around the globe, including marquee tour dates supporting legendary acts like Willie Nelson, Bruce Cockburn, and Blue Rodeo. On top of all that and being a songwriter and producer for hire, in 2019 Lightfoot also debuted The Longest Road Show, a touring revue that brought some of Canada’s most groundbreaking music-makers together for a jaw-dropping handful of nights in Ontario.

Ron Sexsmith

Canada's foremost well-heeled troubadour has made a most unlikely discovery: domestic bliss. All it took, it turns out, was leaving the city he loved. Following 30 years as an emblem of Toronto's west end, Ron Sexsmith reluctantly uprooted to the serene hamlet of Stratford, Ontario, and the melodic, playful, theatrically vivacious Hermitage came gushing out. This new zen can be heard from the first moments of Kinks-esque album opener, "Spring of the Following Year," as the serene sound of birds situate the listener into Sexsmith's state of grace.

Since their debut in 2011, Toronto’s Whitehorse has evolved from magnetic folk duo to full-blown rock band. In truth, Whitehorse is never fully either one or the other, but an ever-evolving creative partnership between Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet. As five consecutive JUNO nominations in four categories attest, whether it be a holiday album or reworked blues covers or pop noir album, Whitehorse rises to every challenge with guitar wizardry and magnetic harmonies.

Basia Bulat

Some records require a journey. Are You In Love?, Basia Bulat's extraordinary, glittering new album, required two: the Canadian singer went to the Mojave desert and then she went away—turning inward, shaking off the shadows, looking out to dawn. The result—after these journeys, singing the songs live in Australia, mixing and remixing in L.A.—is  an album that's gorgeous and startling, quietly strange, a shining desert record with a bit of dusty rose over all its 13 tracks. Love Is At The End Of The World, the album's thunderous closing tune, is one of the most thrilling things Bulat has ever created; a blazing, incandescent ever-after, all raw electric hope.

Joel Plaskett

From rocking Halifax’s Marquee Club to performing for the masses at Massey Hall or touring the country with his father, Joel Plaskett has forged a reputation as one of Canada’s most engaging performers and respected singer-songwriters. Plaskett’s songs are a perennial part of the national playlist, a fixture on “best of” lists, and the soundtrack to the lives of faithful fans across the country and around the world. His accolades over a quarter century include a Juno, numerous East Coast Music, Canadian Folk and Music Nova Scotia awards, and two Polaris short list nominations. Plaskett is a versatile and ever-evolving artist, at turns delivering intimate and idiosyncratic singer-songwriter fare, incendiary riff-rock, left-leaning folk rock, as well as conceptual epics and off-kilter feats of musical stamina.
